CAUSES

SPORTS MEDICINE

Sports Medicine is basically about issues related to sports injury that can be divided into two acute and chronic :

Acute injury
Any injury that occurs suddenly and frequently as a result of physical exertion is referred to as an acute injury. A quick acceleration or impact during exercise or while playing a sport is usually what results in acute injuries. The body will change as a result of the injury. For example, sprains, dislocations etc.

Chronic injury
Chronic injuries, often known as overuse injuries, are long-lasting health issues that may develop gradually. They can result in a lot of suffering, inflammation, and general discomfort if they are not addressed properly. For example, splints, fractures (can be of any kind, boxing fracture, fractured wrists etc.).

Tendonitis
Tendon inflammation is referred to as tendonitis (sometimes written tendinitis). Overuse, or repeatedly performing the same motion, is frequently to blame. A common injury suffered by athletes is tendonitis. If your pain is related to activities, you might have it.

SHOULDER PAIN

Shoulder pain can be brought on by numerous diseases and situations that occurs due to any kind of shoulder injury. Rotator cuff tendinitis is the main contributing factor. Tendon swelling is a defining feature of this illness. Sometimes, an injury to another part of your body, generally the neck or biceps, causes shoulder pain. This is recognized as referred pain. Other causes of shoulder pain include :

Shoulder Hamstring
Your posture is greatly impacted by your hamstrings. A rounded shoulders and a slouched back can result from overly tight hamstrings.

Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that can make joints hurt, swell, and become stiff. It is a condition that is classified as auto-immune. This indicates that the immunity, the body's natural defence mechanism, becomes confused and begins to target the healthy tissues in your body. Inflammation in the joints is the primary mechanism by which rheumatoid arthritis does this.

ELBOW PAIN

The most common cause of elbow pain is inflammation in tendons and ligaments. Overuse, for instance from household duties, is a common cause of it.

The elbow is usually and mostly affected by numerous types of arthritis and ailments:

Osteoarthritis
The insulating cartilage covering the ends of your bones is harmed and destroyed by excessive wear in your joints. The bones start to rub against one another without cartilage to cushion them. They could become uncomfortable, bloated, and distorted.

Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow pain, also known as lateral epicondylitis in medicine, is an inflammation of the external carpi radialis brevis tendon, which causes the wrist to hyperextend. These tendons connecting the forearm muscles to the outside of the elbow are microtron, which causes the injury.

Elbow Fractures
Accidents mostly on elbow, direct impacts here to elbow, and landing on to an extended hand with the elbow bracing the fall are all known to result in elbow fractures. Swelling, discomfort, discoloration, soreness, or flexibility in the joint are signs of an elbow fracture.

Golf Elbow
According to medical terminology, medial epicondylitis affects the region here between elbow and the wrist. Here, the tendons—tissues that connect muscles to bones—that are in charge of having to bend the wrist and finger inward are damaged, which leads to pain in the inner elbow.

KNEE PAIN

A knee injury can impact not just the bones, cartilage, and ligaments that build up the joint itself, but also any ligaments, tendons, or bursae that surrounds your knee joint.

The following are some of the more typical knee injuries :

Fractures
In falls or car accidents, the knee's bones, particularly the patella (knee cap), can break. Additionally, patients with osteoporosis may occasionally suffer a knee fracture from a simple accident.

Torn meniscus
In between the shinbone and thighbone, there is a firm, rubbery cartilage called the meniscus that serves as a stress absorber. If you suddenly twist your knee while standing on it, it may tear.

Patellar tendinitis
The thick, fibrous fibers that connect muscles to bones through tendons experience irritation and inflammation due to tendinitis. The patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone and enables you to run, leap, and kick, can become injured and cause this irritation. Patellar tendinitis can occur in runners, skiers, bikers, and those who participate in jumping sports and hobbies

Knee bursitis
The bursitis, little sacs of fluid that cushion the outside of your knee joint so that tendons and ligaments may move easily across the joint, can become inflamed as a result of several knee injuries.

ACL Tears
ACL injuries frequently occur while participating in sports and physical activity that can strain the knee :

These knee joint pain are just not caused by the injuries but also because of certain mechanical problems and different types of arthritis as well. Some of them include, Loose body, Dislocated kneecap, Hip or foot pain also various types of arthritis that consists of Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Septic arthritis and many more

DIAGNOSIS

Sports Medicine is for injuries related to sports and depends on the intensity, location and kind of injury that has occurred. The doctor will initially get all the physical tests done that will clear your movements and deformity. Only in critical conditions will you require go through surgeries. Otherwise, it can be treated with the help of therapy.

In case of Knee, Elbow and Shoulder pain, the doctor might inquire about your daily activities that you do, your medical history, physical tests such as how far can you move your leg in different directions and check if there is any kind of swelling, pain visible bruising.

For Sports medicine, Anabolic-androgenic steroids and their analogues, blood, erythropoietin, growth hormone and its derivatives, nutritional supplements, creatine, amphetamines, beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB), stimulants, and analgesics are some of the substances that are unevenly applied in sports.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy or sports therapy is one of the essential way for the treatment for any kind of pain. Stretches, exercises, ice, heat, muscle stimulation, and massages can all be used to treat knee, hip, and shoulder joint pain

Surgery

Surgery can be required in cases of severe discomfort or injury. The doctor may perform Arthroscopic knee surgery or knee arthroscopy, which is one of the most common process that is used to treat multiple kind of knee problems such as damages to the meniscus, Cruciate ligaments and others. Additionally, knee replacement surgeries are performed when a damaged knee component needs to be entirely removed and replaced. In reference to Elbow and Shoulder surgeries, Replacement surgeries are done to remove the damage areas of the joint and replace them with implants. We also perform arthroscopic surgeries such as, shoulder arthroscopy for shoulder joints. Sports injuries do require surgeries in case of issues that include, football injuries, sports hernia, pulled hamstring or concussion and a few more.

Knee Arthroscopy

The Dynamic Stabilization System is a special surgical method that provides stabilization of adult spinal segments. Due to its ability to decrease some of the issues associated with metal implants, such as disc degeneration in the discs close to the fusion site, dynamic spine stabilization is a rapidly expanding area of lumbar spine surgery. With dynamic stabilization, the damaged level of the spine is stabilized using springs instead of rods

Shoulder Arthroscopy

In shoulder arthroscopy, the tissues inside or around your shoulder joint are examined or repaired using a tiny camera called an arthroscope. Your skin is sliced just enough to allow the insertion of the arthroscope.
